چکیده

Detailed genetic maps of three related sunflower species support the view that one species originated relatively recently from the other two by hybrid speciation, providing the first good evidence for this theory of speciation.

Case studies and mathematical models of ecological speciation. 4. Hybrid speciation in butterflies in a jungle.

We build a spatial individual-based multilocus model of homoploid hybrid speciation tailored for a tentative case of hybrid origin of Heliconius heurippa from H. melpomene and H. cydno in South America. Our model attempts to account for empirical patterns and data on genetic incompatibility, mating preferences and selection by predation (both based on coloration patterns), habitat preference, a...

Nickel Oxide/Carbon Nanotubes as Active Hybrid Material for Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Carbon nanotubes are of great interest due to their high surface area and rich edge sites, which are favorable for wide applications. Here, a simple and efficient routine is presented by decoration of multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) with nickel oxide (NiO) nanoparticles. The morphologies of NiO-MWCNT  were  investigated  by  using scanning  electron  microscope  (SEM)  and energydispersive X-...

Hybrid fitness across time and habitats.

There has been considerable debate about the role of hybrids in the evolutionary process. One question has involved the relative fitness of hybrid versus non-hybrid genotypes. For some, the assumption of lower hybrid fitness continues to be integral to their concept of species and speciation. In contrast, numerous workers have suggested that hybrid genotypes might demonstrate higher relative fi...

How common is homoploid hybrid speciation?

Hybridization has long been considered a process that prevents divergence between species. In contrast to this historical view, an increasing number of empirical studies claim to show evidence for hybrid speciation without a ploidy change. However, the importance of hybridization as a route to speciation is poorly understood, and many claims have been made with insufficient evidence that hybrid...

The genomic and ecological context of hybridization affects the probability that symmetrical incompatibilities drive hybrid speciation

Despite examples of homoploid hybrid species, theoretical work describing when, where, and how we expect homoploid hybrid speciation to occur remains relatively rare. Here, I explore the probability of homoploid hybrid speciation due to "symmetrical incompatibilities" under different selective and genetic scenarios. Through simulation, I test how genetic architecture and selection acting on tra...
